The film Foreign Blood premiered on NRK1 in March 2021, and has been one of the most watched single documentaries on the channel this year. Foreign Blood is a journey of discovery into a large, but unfortunately quite unknown Norwegian minority; the Forest Finns. They came as immigrants to Norway in the 16th and 17th centuries, and were disliked and discriminated against by some in the larger society because of their unusual customs and traditions. Nevertheless, they are today the ancestors of over half a million Norwegians, and one of our five national minorities, but who were these Forest Finns really? What is their history? This is what Documentary Filmmaker Marte Hallem, together with her daughter Andrea, wants to find the answer to, and together they embark on a treasure hunt in the lives of their ancestors.
