In a small village in Trøndelag, 50 young people disappear in overdoses, accidents and suicides. How could it happen? Could it happen again? In the shadow of the oil adventure is a film about seeing people in periods of great change and rapid growth in society. What is required of us as a society when the world around us changes and takes on a new shape? Documentarian Marte Hallem takes people back to her youth in Verdal in the 1990s, and why so many from her youth generation died due to overdoses, suicides and traffic accidents.
